Luke Fickell and the University of Wisconsin Football team received a ‘C’ grade from the national college recruiting website Rivals for its additions during the spring transfer portal window.

This period, which ran from April 16-30, allowed players to enter the portal after spring camp once they had a better idea of where they fell on the depth chart. During this window, the Wisconsin Badgers saw seven players depart, including Nick Evers, T.J. Bollers, Gabe Kirschke, Tommy McIntosh, Mike Jarvis, A.J. Tisdell, and Michael Mack.

In response, Wisconsin football, who was over the scholarship limit on paper, managed to secure three new commitments: Vanderbilt offensive lineman Leyton Nelson, Illinois offensive lineman Joey Okla, and Boston College wide receiver Joseph Griffin Jr.

Wisconsin Football Added Depth in the Spring Transfer Portal

These transfer portal additions, particularly along the offensive line and at receiver, were crucial for adding depth and competition. However, the Wisconsin football team’s efforts to bolster its defensive line faced setbacks, as several high-profile targets opted for other Power 4 schools.

Top defensive line prospects C.J. West, Jay’Viar Suggs, and Khurtiss Perry committed to Indiana, LSU, and Virginia Tech, respectively. The Wisconsin Badgers continue to pursue defensive line talent and remain contenders for former Wyoming product Gavin Meyer and Brandon Lane from Stephen F. Austin.

The range of grades given by Rivals, from B+ to C-, reflects the overall impact of the transfer moves, with most of the significant player movements having occurred during the winter. Despite some of the challenges in the spring window, Wisconsin football overall transfer class from winter through spring is still ranked among the best in the Big Ten and is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s success this season.
